Caroline Clegg, founder of Manchester-based Feelgood Productions and director of Not About Heroes, writes about directing a play focussing on the friendship between Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.

 

Not About Heroes is one of the finest plays I have ever directed. The writing is skilled, witty, and challenging and it is an appropriate piece for the 21st century as we examine our attitudes to peace and conflict a century on from the First World War. The Wilfred Owen Association has endorsed our production and supported us with an honorary reception on our first night.

Stephen Macdonald’s Not About Heroes, a World War I drama charting the friendship of two of the greatest war poets, will end its forthcoming UK tour with an autumn run at the Trafalgar Studio 2.

 

Starring Alasdair Craig as Siegfried Sassoon and Simon Jenkins as Wilfred Owen, Not About Heroes will arrive at the intimate studio theatre from 10 November to 6 December.

After a hit premiere in Edinburgh, the national tour of the Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon drama kicked off to a sell out crowd at Craiglockhart War Hospital in London, where the two poets first met during WW1.

 

Now the Not About Heroes comes to The Lowry from 5th-8th October.

 

The multi-awarding winning Feelgood Theatre Production presents a drama that charts the extraordinary friendship of two men whose poetry became the voice of a lost, scarred generation and a world changed forever.

 

Weaving together their poetry, letters, and autobiographical writings including Anthem for Doomed Youth and Mental Cases, the work celebrates the indomitable spirit of friendship and offers an insight into courage, love and humanity in the face of war.

OLD Trafford based professional theatre company Feelgood celebrated 20 years of critically-acclaimed productions at a civic reception thrown its honour.

 

The event was held at Manchester Town Hall before the company begins a national tour of Not About Heroes, a moving and thought provoking play about the celebrated First World War poets, Wilfred Owen and Siegried Sassoon.

This Autumn, the multi-awarding winning Feelgood Theatre Production takes to the road with the drama that charts the extraordinary friendship of two men whose poetry became the voice of a lost (scarred) generation and a world changed forever. The national tour and West End run of Stephen MacDonald’s play NOT ABOUT HEROES opens today with a gala ceremony at Craiglockhart War Hospital where the two first met and runs here until 10th September before going on to tour other significant venues in the poets lives, including Owen’s home town of Shrewsbury and a performance by special invitation of the Mayor of Ors at The Wilfred Owen Memorial (The Foresters House) in France.
